The Last Ferry To Dunoon
'The Last Ferry To Dunoon'
In 2011 I had an exhibition in London in aid of World Child Cancer. I got chatting to one of the visitors to the exhibition and she asked to commission me to paint a view of her home town in Scotland with a donation going to WCC. Well it turns out her home town is also my home town (Gourock), a very unusual coincidence it has to be said. So once we got over that surprise we got chatting about what view she would want and she mentioned a view looking across the River Clyde from Cardwell Bay. Move forward a month or two and on the actual day I went down to sketch/photograph for the painting it turned out to be the last ever sailing of the Caledonian MacBrayne car ferry to Dunoon hence to final title of the painting. A glorious day full of sunshine on the Clyde but still a little tinge of sadness also.
